Beware Con men on Internet Dating Sites

by Deborah Reisdorph (ladylawca) - 4 months ago

Although I thought I was a smart person, I totally failed myself when I delayed in realizing that the man I met online, after dating him long distance for four years, was marrying me only for my money. I trusted him and he totally set me up. He walked away with all the community assets, and an order that I pay him monthly for 14 months!! In May 2009, he flew from NY to CA where I lived after our separation in October 2007, and stole my car though I had paid for all the payments on the loan in his name only! He traded in both our SUVs for a Saturn convertible yellow sports car! He kept the $14,000 equity I put into those vehicles too!

Why did I do it? I fell in love with his family. I fell in love with my dream, my fantasy! I chose to be blind apparently, as there were signs I could have responded to and didn't.

Yes, I am kicking myself, but I am also trying to learn from this experience to avoid repeating it, and to help others avoid falling into this trap.
