The Essence of Girlfriends

For years now I have been trying to get a group of girlfriends together. Knowing how important it is to have friends, I have tried several times and finally got a group together. Our name is Girlfriends Are Pennies from Heaven. We meet a few times a month and our group has lasted for over two years.

One of the most heart felt things that happened with this group is the story of one lady.
She came into our group, very quiet and shy. She wore what was obviously a wig which none of us knew why. A few times right before the meeting was over she would leave crying. She would not talk or share with us what was going on.

After many months had gone by, I walked into our group and saw this woman and wondered who she was. To my shock, it was this woman who I will call Mary. She did not have her wig on and it took me (as well as everyone else) a few minutes to realize who she was.

She shared with us while we were eating dinner that she had Parkinson's disease and this group of girlfriends gave her the courage to take off her wig and face like with courage.

She is a woman who loves games, so I made her our "Theme Creator" for our game night and regular meeting night. It was as if I had given her a million dollars. She made a looseleaf binder of different games and ideas for each month of the year. She just shines with happiness now. Her smile fills her face and gives us all such joy. She now leaves the meetings not crying but with a big smile on her face.

If nothing else has come about from this group, just seeing the change in this woman fills my heart with eternal joy. Girlfriends Are Pennies from Heaven.
